The World's Greatest Martini
FEATURE FILM - IN DEVELOPMENT
Helen needs to get her groove back. Her emotional world in the outer suburbs is drying up: her husband has recently died, her adult daughter is interstate, and Helen hasn't been in contact with her son Martin for ten years. In the aftermath of her husband's funeral she decides to find Martin, tell him about his father passing, and reconnect.
But Helen quickly learns via her daughter that Martin wants nothing to do with her. There will be no reconciliation if he has anything to do with it. She also learns that Martin, now 24, may be involved with Drag performance.
Helen naively asks her gay neighbour Shane to help her navigate the community so she can connect with Martin. Shane is too world-weary to tell Helen anything other than to leave well-enough alone; while he cares generally about Helen's well-being, he won't be the custodian of her feelings nor, when he realizes Martin had an AVO on his father, the solver of Helen's problems.
As for Martin, he is a rising star on Australia's Drag scene. He has found his tribe and is happy and busy putting together the Drag Queen Victoria XXX-Mas Tour for the holidays - something he hopes will also be a celebration of success in the forthcoming Marriage Equality Bill. When Helen attends an open cattle call for the tour, planning to surprise him, she finds herself so intimidated by his glamour and success she chickens out of approaching him.
